What is illumi?

illumi is a magical, dazzling and extraordinary nocturnal adventure where inventive and surprising concepts are transposed into thousands of larger-than-life light structures that take shape with 25 million LED bulbs. For the 2021-2022 season, Cavalia presents a new illumi where most of the universes and light structures are original, never-before-seen creations. illumi offers an epic and imaginary adventure for kids and adults alike. Visitors travel to new and jaw-dropping worlds through a spectacular journey, on foot or by car. The fantastic three-kilometer route is absolutely mesmerizing. Cutting-edge programming technologies, high-definition projections that blur the boundaries of reality, and animatronic Jurassic creatures that immerse visitors in scenes worthy of Hollywood films also make illumi the family event of the year not to be missed in Quebec. The tradition continues in Laval this fall with the 3rd edition of the largest light, sound, and multimedia show in the world!

How much time does it take to complete the journey?

For the experience on foot, allow approximately between 60 and 120 minutes to take in all of illumi’s scenes. For those enjoying the experience by car, the journey will take approximately between 45 and 60 minutes. These timeframes are estimates and subject to attendance.

Are the scenes the same as in the previous edition?

For the third edition of illumi, there are many surprises in store, with more than 80% new installations throughout the experience. The three-kilometer course will offer 15 new worlds for a total of 20 scenes. In all, 25 million LED bulbs will bring thousands of dazzling structures to life.

Is it possible to see all of illumi's scenes, regardless of the experience whether by car or on foot?

Yes. The routes for visitors on foot or by car are outlined through all the scenes of the New Dazzling World of Lights so that all visitors, regardless of the experience, can experience the magic in its entirety.

Is it possible to buy food and drinks at illumi?

During your visit, you can grab a bite to eat at the food trucks parked at the illumi Stopovers. There are also bars and service counters for snacks and souvenirs. If I choose the experience on foot, is there parking available on the illumi site?

We offer several satellite parking lots around the site, which are accessible on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is free of charge and spots cannot be reserved ahead of your visit.

Given illumi’s popularity, especially on weekends and during high season, we recommend that you plan more time to arrive on site. We also strongly encourage you to use public transportation to get to illumi.

Is there a shuttle from the parking lots to the illumi site?

As the entrance to the illumi site is a 2-minute walk from our satellites parking lots, we do not offer a shuttle service.

How do I listen to the illumi music if I am choosing the experience by car?

Music is an integral part of the illumi multimedia experience. Unique, immersive soundtracks set the mood for each universe. Speakers are placed at strategic locations along the path so that visitors by car can enjoy the ambiance by slightly lowering their windows. You can also access the soundtracks on specific radio frequencies. The frequencies to tune are announced at the entrance of each world.

Are pets allowed on the illumi site?

Dogs are always allowed in cars. For the experience on foot, only properly identified service dogs are authorized at all times. However, selected evenings are organized during the third edition so that visitors can walk through the New Dazzling World of Lights with their dog on a leash. How can I get back an item lost at illumi?

Notify us of items lost at the illumi site by sending a message through the “Contact Us” page on our website. Please note that perishable items and food will not be kept.

Why can't I book tickets for the driving experience for most Saturdays?

Given illumi’s popularity, Saturdays are turning into a walking experience only to meet the high demand. At the moment, only Saturdays in January offer tickets for the in-car experience.

What is illumi's address?

The illumi site is located in Laval along Highway 15, between Boulevard Saint-Martin and Boulevard du Souvenir. The address is 2805 Boulevard du Souvenir, Laval, Quebec H7V 0A3.

What are illumi’s opening hours?

illumi is an evening event, with the magic starting at nightfall. Evening opening hours and schedules vary weekly. Times are also subject to change based on dates, visitor traffic and special occasions. You can look up illumi’s complete schedule on the “Schedule and Rates” page by clicking here.

Do the scenes change during the third edition?

illumi adapts to holidays and adds a thematic touch to its experience according to the seasons. Thus, the themes of Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Spring Break, Spring and Easter, to name a few, will be in the spotlight for a few weeks throughout the third edition.

Will illumi be closed if there is inclement weather?

The illumi site will remain open in all weather conditions. For safety reasons, we may have to cancel certain activities in extreme wind conditions or an exceptional storm. Should such an event occur, announcements will be posted on social media and on illumi’s website. Unless we announce otherwise, we will welcome you in any kind of weather.

If you are concerned about the weather, you have the option to add WEATHER INSURANCE to your ticket at the time of purchase. For just $5 extra per ticket for the experience on foot and $10 extra per drive-through ticket, you will be able to exchange your original ticket for a different date and time slot if there is inclement weather. In this case, follow the instructions received at the time of purchase.

What is weather insurance?

If you are concerned about the weather, you have the option to add WEATHER INSURANCE to your ticket at the time of purchase. For just $5 extra per ticket for the experience on foot and $10 extra per drive-through ticket, you will be able to exchange your original ticket for a different date and time slot if there is inclement weather. In this case, follow the instructions received at the time of purchase.

What is the FLEX OPTION?

If you wish to be able to exchange your ticket for another date or another time slot for any reason, we suggest that you add a FLEX OPTION voucher to your ticket at the time of purchase. For just $10 extra per ticket for the walking experience or $25 per vehicle, you will be able to exchange your original ticket for a different date and time slot. The FLEX OPTION must be added to the ticket during the initial purchase. It cannot be added later, without exception. The FLEX OPTION also includes the benefits of our WEATHER INSURANCE.

Can I get to illumi using public transit?

Yes, you can take the metro’s orange line to the Montmorency station to reach the illumi site. Upon exiting the station, head to dock no. 5. An STL shuttle bus departing every 30 minutes will take you directly to illumi. The same shuttle bus can drive you back to the Montmorency metro station once you have completed your visit.

If I show up late, can I still take the journey?

It is very important that you organize your travel to arrive at the illumi entrance gate at the time indicated on your ticket. If you arrive late, we unfortunately will not be able to guarantee your entrance because we have a capacity limit for each time slot to ensure a magical experience for all.

Is smoking allowed at illumi?

illumi is a non-smoking site. Smoking and vaping are prohibited during your visit, regardless of whether you are walking or driving.

What hotels are near the illumi site?

Where can I purchase tickets?

Tickets for illumi are on sale exclusively online. Click here to access the “Schedule and Rates” page to begin your reservation. Note that it is mandatory to purchase tickets in advance and reserve them online to have access to the desired date, time slot and experience. In order to control the flow of visitors to guarantee a pleasant visit by avoiding any congestion on the site, a limited number of entries are available per day, per time slot and per type of experience.

How much are the tickets?

The rates vary depending on the experience, the visitor’s age category and the date and time slot. The rates represent the latest prices for each evening based on visitor traffic. Please check out the rate chart on the “Schedule and Rates” page by clicking here.

Are there reduced rates for seniors?

Reduced rates are available for seniors (65 +). Please check out the rate chart on the “Schedule and Rates” web page by clicking here.

Do I have to print my e-tickets?

You can present your e-tickets with their unique bar code from your mobile device at the illumi entrance. Make sure your device is charged and please increase the screen brightness to maximum. If you choose to print your e-tickets, we will be able to scan them upon entry.

Can I offer illumi tickets as a gift?

You can purchase an electronic gift card by clicking here.
The illumi electronic gift card and your personal message will be sent to your recipient by email, at the time and on the date you specify. Once activated by the recipient, the electronic gift card can be used only for purchases at the online box-office. The illumi electronic gift cannot be used at points of sale along the illumi journey. Only electronic gift cards are available. Physical gift cards are not available. Note that it is not possible to purchase tickets without selecting a specific date and time slot.

Are unredeemed tickets from previous edition valid for 2021–2022?

Tickets sold for the 2019–2020 and 2020-2021 edition, even if unredeemed, are no longer valid. Only tickets for the 2021–2022 edition are accepted.

Can I change my illumi experience (on foot or by car) once I have completed my reservation?

Considering that we have a capacity limit for each type of experience and time slot, it is unfortunately not possible to transfer to another experience once you have purchased your tickets. Please note that tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. All sales are final.

Why are ticket prices higher on weekends than on weekdays?

Demand-based ticket prices are in keeping with our policy that “the more tickets available for a given evening, the more favourable the prices will be.” Ticket prices reflect the most recent price for each evening based on demand. Prices are subject to change without prior notice. Please note that tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. All sales are final.

If I cannot make it due to an unforeseeable event, can I use my ticket on another day?

No. illumi tickets are non-transferable, non-exchangeable and non-refundable. All sales are final.

Are there different types of tickets?

There are three types of tickets for illumi:

  1. The experience by car
  2. The experience on foot

Please note that you cannot change your experience once you have made your purchase. All tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. All sales are final.

Why do I need to select a time slot?

We ask you to select a time slot so that we can control the flow of visitors and guarantee an optimal experience while preventing traffic congestion on the site.

What is the procedure for purchasing tickets online?

Tickets for illumi are on sale exclusively online. Click here to access the “Schedule and Rates” page to begin your reservation. When you buy your tickets online, you will receive a purchase confirmation by email and your electronic tickets in PDF format in a second email. You can present your e-tickets with their unique bar code at the entrance to the illumi site.

Is there a special group rate?

Can I change my ticket date and/or time slot?

Once you have completed your purchase, you cannot change your ticket date or time slot. illumi tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. All sales are final.

Can I go through illumi more than once?

It is not possible to repeat the journey with the same ticket. One admission per ticket.

If your website indicates that a date or time slot is sold-out, will same-day tickets be available at the entrance of illumi?

Tickets for illumi are on sale exclusively online. No ticket will be sold at the entrance of illumi. Please note that ticket availability on our website is adjusted in real time. If a time slot indicates “sold-out”, no further tickets will be available for that slot. We have limited our capacity for each time slot to ensure a magical experience for all.

Can I pick up my purchased tickets at the entrance of illumi?

It is not possible to pick up your purchased tickets at the entrance of illumi. You can present your e-tickets with their unique bar code from your mobile device at the entrance to the illumi site. Make sure your device is charged and increase the screen brightness to maximum. You can also print your e-tickets and present them at the entrance of illumi where they will be scanned by an agent.

Can I purchase same-day tickets?

Tickets for illumi are on sale exclusively online. No ticket will be sold at the entrance of illumi. You can purchase same-day tickets online a few hours before visiting the site if there are still some available. Please note that ticket availability on our website is adjusted in real time. If a time slot indicates “sold-out”, no further tickets will be available for that time slot. To ensure a magical experience for all, we have limited our capacity for each time slot.

Are promotional codes available?

Promotional codes are not available for illumi tickets.

Family & children

Does a 2 years old or younger child need a ticket?

Children aged 2 and under have free entry to either experience. However, you do need to get a ticket for each child aged 2 and under during your reservation process. There will not be a charge for this ticket.

Are there strollers for rent on the Illumi site?

No, strollers are not available for rent on the Illumi site.

Is the experience on foot stroller-accessible?

The experience on foot is open to families with strollers or small sleds. During the winter months, snow removal will take place frequently so that all visitors can enjoy their experience to the fullest.

Are there changing tables along the path?

Yes, there are changing tables available in the bathrooms for visitors with young children.

Persons with
reduced mobility

Is the walking path accessible for persons with reduced mobility?

The walking path is accessible for persons with reduced mobility. During the winter months, frequent snow removal will take place so that all our visitors can enjoy their experience to the fullest. The STL shuttle buses between the Montmorency metro station and the illumi site are also adapted for people with reduced mobility.
There are designated parking spaces for people with reduced mobility in the satellite parking lots.

There is also a designated drop-off area for adapted transport to allow our visitors with specific needs to enter the illumi site quickly and safely.

Are there wheelchairs for rent on the Illumi site?

No, wheelchairs are not available for rent on the Illumi site.

Does the companion of a person with reduced mobility have to pay for his or her ticket?

llumi is pleased to offer a free pass to the companion of a person with reduced mobility who has purchased a ticket for the New Dazzling World of Lights. The companion will receive free admission upon presenting his or her companion card at our box office located near the pedestrian entrance. The companion must go to the box office on site in Laval to get his or her special ticket.

During the journey

Are there restrooms along the route?

During your visit, heated restrooms will be accessible in several areas on the site. All visitors aged 10 and over must wear a face mask in the enclosed or semi-enclosed public spaces at the illumi site.

Is there a place to make purchases on the site?

Can I turn around and go back along the path?

Whether you are visiting on foot or by car, it is not allowed to go in the opposite direction of the traffic. The drive-through and walking experiences all travel in one direction. It is extremely important for cars to follow the road signs. It is also important for walkers to follow the pedestrian signs. If you choose the walking experience, you can wander at your leisure among the light structures in the same world before moving on to the next. Should you need to cut your visit short, there are clearly identified paths to take that will allow you to leave.

Are there emergency exits on the illumi site?

Emergency exits are clearly indicated. If you need to use an emergency exit, please notify an illumi team member beforehand.

Will we be able to visit Santa Claus?

Given the exceptional health situation, Santa Claus has decided not to visit illumi this year. He’ll be staying home with Mrs. Claus at the North Pole.

Are there heated spaces?

Visitors will have access to several Warm-Up Areas along the walking path. Please note that all visitors aged 10 and over must wear a face mask in the enclosed or semi-enclosed public spaces at the illumi site.

Is alcohol allowed on the illumi site?

Alcohol may not be brought onto the illumi site. It is strictly prohibited to consume alcohol in a vehicle. Road safety rules apply at all times. Walking experience ticketholders can purchase alcohol at the illumi Stopovers zones and must consume it there.

Experience on foot

What does the walking experience ticket include?

A walking experience ticket gives you access to the New Dazzling World of Lights’ walkway, to the Warm-Up Areas as well as to the illumi Stopovers.

How should I prepare for the walking experience?

Here are a few tips to optimize your experience by foot:

  1. Dress appropriately for the evening’s conditions so you are comfortable enough to be totally dazzled by the Illumi experience, no matter the weather!
  2. It can get very windy on the Illumi site. Dress warmly!
  3. Wear comfortable shoes that are appropriate for the weather (in case of rain, snow or other winter conditions)
  4. Remember that the three-kilometre journey takes longer to complete on foot (about 60 minutes) than by car (between 45 and 60 minutes).
  5. All visitors aged 10 and over must wear a face mask or a face covering throughout the illumi site.
  6. Make sure your phone battery is fully charged so that you can capture all the magical moments in pictures or videos.

Is the walking path identical to the drive-through route?

All visitors will have the opportunity to visit every world whether they are walking or driving. For everyone’s safety, the walking path is separated and distinct from the drive-through route and any crossing lanes are specifically identified.

Can I take photos and videos along the walking path?

You can take and record as many photos and videos as you want. We encourage you to share your photos on social media using the hashtag #illumicavalia

How can physical distancing be respected for the experience on foot?

A limited number of tickets are available per day, per time slot and per experience to control visitor traffic—both to guarantee a pleasant visit without congestion and to follow the physical distancing measures issued by the health authorities. For the experience on foot, visitors must keep two metres between their group and other visitors. All visitors aged 10 and over must wear a face mask or a face covering throughout the illumi site.

Drive-through experience

What does the drive-through ticket include?

The drive-through ticket gives ticketholders access to the New Dazzling World of Lights as well as to the illumi Stopovers.

How long does it take to complete the drive?

We estimate it will take approximately between 45 and 60 minutes to see all the illumi scenes by car. This timeframe is an estimate that may vary based on attendance or on time you spend in each scene.

How should I prepare for the drive-through experience?

Here are a few tips to optimize your drive-through adventure:

  1. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition.
  2. Make sure you have enough gas.
  3. Top up your windshield washer fluid before you arrive.
  4. During the winter months, please remove all snow from your vehicle (windshield, side windows, back window, headlights, and taillights).

Are there other rules that apply to the drive-through experience?

Yes, drivers must have the requisite authorizations, insurance, and license to drive their vehicle on the day of the visit. On the illumi site, drivers and their vehicles will be subject to all the applicable regulations, specifically road safety rules. Drivers are required to always adhere to the Highway Safety Code while on the illumi site. We remind you that it is prohibited to consume alcohol and to use a mobile phone while driving.

Can I get out of my vehicle to take pictures and record videos?

For safety reasons, it is strictly forbidden to get out of your vehicle to take pictures and record videos while you are driving through the New Dazzling World of Lights. However, it will be possible for the drivers and its passengers to get out of the vehicle at the illumi Stopovers and to access the restrooms.

What type of vehicles are allowed on the illumi site?

The types of vehicles allowed on the illumi site are sedans, SUVs, pick-ups, convertibles, and minivans. All other types of vehicles (RVs, campers, fifth wheels, trailers, scooters, bikes, snowmobiles, etc.) will not be allowed onto the premises.

Can I drive the route in a convertible with the top down?

Yes, you can drive the route with the top down. However, please note that all vehicle doors must remain closed, and all passengers must always remain seated inside the vehicle.

Can I or my passengers sit in my vehicle's open trunk or cargo bed?

For general safety reasons and to ensure an optimal experience for all, it is forbidden to open the trunk of your vehicle or your vehicle doors along the route. All passengers must always remain seated inside their vehicles during the journey. Please note that you must respect road safety rules during your drive-through visit.

Is there a speed limit?

The speed limit along the illumi route is 5 km/hr. It is strictly prohibited to exceed the prescribed speed limit. Drivers who do so may be asked to leave the premises immediately.

Is honking allowed?

It is forbidden to intentionally honk, turn on your high beams or otherwise disrupt activities on site.

Do I have to turn off my headlights while visiting the site?

For general safety reasons and to ensure an optimal experience for all, we ask that you use your low beams when possible during your visit.

Is there a maximum number of people allowed per vehicle?

It is essential to follow all road safety rules during your drive-through visit, including the laws regarding the maximum number of people for your type of vehicle. illumi reserves the right to inspect vehicles entering its site. Entry will be denied if this inspection is refused. For the drive-through experience, additionally to the mandatory driver ticket, a ticket must be purchased for each passenger of the vehicle. Can I split my group up in several cars?

When buying your drive-through experience tickets, the number of driver tickets must correspond to the number of vehicles that arrive at the gate. This means if you buy one driver ticket and three passenger tickets, you cannot split your group into two cars. This would require two driver tickets.

Is wearing a mask mandatory?

Wearing a mask or a face cover is strongly recommended on the Illumi outdoor site, while respecting the physical distance of 1 meter. Wearing a mask or face cover remains mandatory for people 10 years of age and over in closed or partially covered spaces. In their vehicle, the wearing of a mask or face cover is at the discretion of visitors, subject to applicable regulations.

What should we do if I or a person accompanying me has COVID-19 symptoms on the date of the visit?

We ask that you do not go to the illumi site if you have one or more COVID-19 symptoms or if you have been in contact with someone who has had COVID-19 in the previous 14 days. If this applies to you, please send us a message via the “Contact Us” page on our website to learn more about the steps to follow.

Do I need the vaccine passport to visit illumi?

Under the current applicable government rules, the vaccination passport will be mandatory for visitors aged 13 and over to be admitted to the illumi site if you choose the experience on foot. In this sense, for the walking experience, you will need to present a vaccination passport and an official ID card (driver’s license, health insurance card, etc.). A printed copy of the QR code will be accepted. Note, however, that the vaccination passport is not required for illumi’s experience by car.

What measures has illumi taken regarding COVID-19?

Illumi has taken special measures to ensure the health and safety of our clients during this pandemic. We pride ourselves in offering a safe environment, which is why, among other things, we are offering the illumi experience on foot or by car. We have designed our facilities to promote respect for distancing in addition to increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfection. Hand washing stations are located at various strategic points on the illumi site. The queues have also been specially designed as well as the entrances and exits clearly identified for this purpose.

What should I do if others do not respect the measures for COVID-19?

If you see people who are not respecting the measures, you can report them to our staff in order for our teams to respond rapidly.
